Knox, Philander Chase
(6 may. 1853, Brownsville, Pa., EE.UU.–12 oct. 1921, Washington, D.C.).

Abogado y político estadounidense. Una vez recibido, en 1875, ejerció con éxito la profesión de abogado de empresas, en Pittsburgh. En su calidad de asesor jurídico de la Carnegie Steel Company, colaboró en la creación de la United States Steel Corp. (1900–01). El pdte. Theodore Roosevelt lo nombró fiscal general (ministro de justicia) en 1901 e inició varios juicios en virtud de la ley antimonopolio Sherman. Fue senador entre 1904 y 1909, luego, como secretario de Estado (1909–13) del pdte. William H. Taft, colaboró en la formulación de la política exterior de ampliación de las inversiones estadounidenses, que más adelante fue criticada como diplomacia del dólar. Durante su segundo período en el Senado (1917–21), se opuso a la creación de la Sociedad de Naciones.
